Study Permit

An applicant who wishes to study in South Africa longer than three months (primary, secondary or tertiary educational institution or any other bona fide institution of learning) requires a study permit. Study permits are granted for the duration of the course or the period for which the student has been accepted.

The holder of a study permit may work on a part-time basis, being up to 20 hours a week during the term, and more during official holidays provided that the registrar of the institution consents to this in writing. The holder of a study permit may also apply to be granted permission to conduct work in the form of practical training related to his or her studies.
